The fusion of calligraphy and graffiti; A movement ignited by Niels "Shoe" Meulman, Calligraffiti is “an invitation to be a viewer of words again”. Put simply, it’s traditional handwriting with a metropolitan attitude. The effort of making words into a visual composition mixing tradition and precision with modern self-expression. It’s both an aesthetic experience and provocative art.
Inspired by characteristics of Blackletter, specifically Rotunda and Textur, I attempt to understand the chaotic harmony of calligraffiti. These are the results of markers, manuscript pens, 6mm parallel pens, pencils and paper. Occasionally I’ll digitize some of my work to create stickers and potential t-shirt designs for fun.
